Its a good thing I’m smarter than a 5th grader, as I was a fifth grade teacher! Now, if only they’d give me the million dollars, instead of a print-off certificate of award. Well I’ve been feeling lately like I didn’t have two brain cells to rub together, so this was, sadly, a bit of a boost for me. I’ll be back to my old self soon, and in the meantime I can know that I am smarter than a good deal of American adults out there.
Long Night
June 14, 20079:00 pm — out of the shower. Clean up. Realize I’m FAMISHED and dig into the new bread I picked up at Trader Joe’s. (Shepherd’s Bread — delish!) Early Bird wakes up because he has kicked himself into the top corner of the bassinet. I reset him and rock him while balancing my toast on my bed.
9:45 pm — back downstairs watching Last Comic Standing with my husband and catching up on some blogs. Discover that my husband’s friend’s wives have “joined the bandwagon of Mommyblogging.” Look through my archives. They’ve been blogging for 2-3 months. I’m going on 2 1/2 years. Feel old. Read some blogs and realize I have nothing worthwhile to say. Feel stupid.
10:25 pm — realize that the show isn’t ending at 10 and that I’m living in a dream world. Move upstairs to watch the rest of it in bed.
11 pm — scriptures, prayer, bed (neither Paul, nor myself, remembers our ritual of tucking Little Red back under the covers before we go to bed.)
1:30 am — Early Bird wakes up, eats, goes back to sleep.
3:30 am — Little Red climbs into bed with me (he’s only gotten up in the middle of the night twice in three months.)
4:20 am — I finally kick him out of bed since neither of us were sleeping. I’m so tired my temples are throbbing. Paul carries him back to bed and he goes to sleep right away.
4:30 am — Early Bird wakes up, eats, goes back to sleep.
7:10 – 7:30 am — Early Bird wakes up and starts kicking and talking, Paul’s alarm goes off after each press of snooze. Both Paul and I pretend we can’t hear either and try to sleep. He finally gets up to get ready for work while I listen to Early Bird talk to himself. He poos and I get up to change him.
7:30 am — scrub his gown and sheets clean of the blowout.
7:35 am — feed Early Bird while Little Red wakes up and comes in.
Amazingly, I feel better this morning than I did yesterday morning. It goes without saying, however, that today is not a day I’m going to power through without a nap. Someday I am going to give up napping with the boys, but certainly not today.
