Discovering Los Angeles: The Americana at Brand

Cross-posted from Cherry Blossoms The Blog.

Last week I extolled the virtues of the Kids Club, but even if you can’t make it to the Tuesday morning shows, or it just isn’t your thing, the Americana at Brand can stand on it’s own family-friendly merits.  It’s one of the first places we take our out-of-towners, and also a place we spend a lot of time even without guests.

My first stop is always the fountain, although the grand lobby is nothing to scoff at with it’s mosaics, murals, and player piano.  The fountain is the centerpiece of the open space of the Americana.  While it runs all the time, every hour on the hour the fountain changes pattern and performs a choreographed dance to a song.  Day or night it always draws a crowd.

At peak times of the day, (usually afternoons, evenings, and weekends,) the trolley comes around the tracks.  Depending on how busy it is there will be either one or two loading stops.  Hop on for a free guided tour of some of the highlights of the Americana, to rest your tired feet, or to just enjoy the ride.

Let your children burn off some steam at the sandy-bottomed playscape while you ponder your purchases or enjoy a treat from a nearby kiosk.

The Americana is an exciting venue that hosts events throughout the year.  Last year we attended kick-off events for Lego Harry Potter,

Cars 2,
Shrek the Musical,
and many more.

My favourite time of year at the Americana is Christmas.  I love the lights.  I love the tree.  I love the magic of the nightly snowfall.

The Americana at Brand is so much more than splendid shopping and delicious food, it’s a destination. Register for their email list to be the first to know of all their fun events.  You don’t want to miss out!

What about you?  Have you been to the Americana?  What’s your favourite part?
