Following our discussions earlier addressing ice lanterns and candles, Swedish lighted stars deserve a mention as well. Before I began studying Nordic Christmas traditions I had only seen them in the holiday section of IKEA. However, a well-lighted warehouse store is not exactly an ideal showcase for these delicate beauties.

The more I read about these stars the more I knew I needed to incorporate them into our own family’s Christmas.

These lighted stars hang in windows of homes across Sweden. They provide light within the home as well as outdoors.

I only have one. So far. But I love it! And the family does, too. The other day my husband noticed the star was off. I had turned it off for the night as I was going up to bed. He was concerned we hadn’t turned it on in the first place. I think this star is going to be with us for a long time.
